Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented approach to healing trauma and other stress disorders by assessing and resolving a person’s “stuck” nervous system responses. Like other body-based psychology approaches, this modality utilizes a bottom up approach to address the underlying sensations and behavioral patterns resulting from trauma. Clients are able to experience greater relief, resilience, and ease from symptoms of PTSD and the wounds created by developmental and attachment trauma.
Somatic Experiencing is at it’s core a gentler approach to trauma healing because:
The foundational belief rests in the client’s innate capacity to heal
It does not require the client to re-tell or re-live their trauma story
The process is inherently slow, supportive, and connected
By engaging and resolving incomplete fight-or-flight responses, a sense of physical and emotional balance is restored
